Curriculum vitae Helga Schulze

I was born in Berlin-Köpenick on February 9th, 1948 as Helga Groth. I went to school in Bad Honnef near Bonn and passed my school-leaving exam at the grammar school there (corresponding to: A-levels or high-school diploma) in 1966. Even when I was studying at the „Deutsche Sporthochschule“ (German college of physical education) in Cologne several of my photos of women’s artistic gymnastics and modern gymnastics were published in professional periodicals. I love the elegance of movements and have always tried to catch this in my photos.

After having finished my studies I taught at a grammar school in Remscheid as a qualified PE teacher. In 1980 I married Gerd Schulze and moved to Rotenburg upon the river Fulda (about 55 km south of Kassel). We have got two children, Heike and Stephan, who were born in 1982 and 1983 respectively.

In the meantime I dedicated myself to silk painting and pottery, which gave me a lot of pleasure.
My other hobbies are: sports (riding and jazz-dance), music, reading, history, travelling, cooking, Sudoku, two cats and orchids.

From 1996 to 2007 I have been painting in the „Kunstverein Rotenburg“ (Rotenburg arts society) under the guidance of Mr Hans Röse. Together with other artists I have already taken part in several expositions. Since 2003 I’m painting as well under the guidance of Nino Pezzella who is university lecturer at the art academy in Frankfurt.

My special love is the aquarelle. In my opinion its dynamic run of colours is especially suitable for capturing the characteristics of movements. The lightness of the application of colour and the fleetingness of the moment inspire me again and again to paint new pictures.

As I like animals very much it is hardly a wonder that the majority of my paintings are showing animal themes. When I feel like it I also like painting plants and landscapes. Most, however, I like living out my fantasies and feelings in abstract paintings. These, I think, reflect my personality in the most expressive way. I’ve started to paint nudes (males and women) in oil and aquarelles and I love it!

Most of my paintings in the last years are in oil or acryl as some of my expressive themes don’t come out properly in aquarelles.
